Volume is the amount of space that a substance or object occupies. It measures how much room the material takes up, not how much matter is inside (mass), how much energy it has, or its temperature. That’s why a liter of water and a liter of air occupy the same volume even though their masses are very different, and why density (mass per volume) helps explain why objects of the same size can have different weights. Units like liters, milliliters, and cubic centimeters are used for liquids and solids, while irregular objects can be found by water displacement. In short, volume describes the space a sample fills.
